You may have noticed that there's an "Animated GIF" Format option in Adobe Media Encoder Queue. If you're using an older version of After Effects (2021 or older), you'll need to use the "Lossless with Alpha" Output Module template. Open the resulting movie file in Photoshop (note, on the macOS side if you're on a M1-based Mac you may still have to open Photoshop using Rosetta) and use File > Export > Save for Web (Legacy). Beyond that a medium grey layer would disappear with pretty much any blendmode other than normal for obvious mathematical reasons. If you need to create animated GIF files on a regular basis, GifGun for After Effects is well worth it.Īs long as the animation is 500 frames or less, you can render a movie file from After Effects with transparency and then convert that to an animated GIF with transparency in Photoshop.Īssuming that you can see the Transparency Grid in After Effects, add your Comp to the After Effects Render Queue, set the Render Settings template to "Best Settings", and the Output Module to "High Quality with Alpha". If used correctly, Particular will overwrite the Alpha of the layer completely, thus introducing correct transparency info. Are you sure you have the latest version? The trial of Particular isn’t limited, either, except for rendering a red X on top to invalidate the output. The AE trial is not limited in any way except for some output formats and of course the lack of some plugins, but this shouldn’t affect your experimentation. Grey layer with Particular? Still sounds fishy. I was just wondering if there is a composite mode button I am missing in the plug in, or something. That also includes using the blend modes not only in the plug in but also in the layer pulldown. So only where the particles are is where I see the live action plate coming through, every where else just stays the same grey. Maybe because it thinks it is a trial version and it just doesnt let you comp it over other materials? When i use the blend modes, it only blends where the particles are, and not the grey. I have been using ae for around a decade and have never seen this before. Thanks, but its not the comp bg, i have live footage covering the whole comp. Particular itself will properly calculate Alpha for each item. Change the color to whatever you like and enable the transparency grid option to see if your Alpha channel is correct. That would explain the blendmode behavior - the comp BG is considered non-existant (or fully transparent). Huh? I think you are simply seeing your composition background. Does anyone have this issue? I just want to put these partlces over some live footage and motion graphics. Even changing the bg color in the plug in does not do a thing. I am new to particular, but i dont understand how you use it with any bg other than grey. Even the blend options within particular, only effect the particles and not the grey bg. Even If i do a blend mode from the ae layer pulldown, only the actually particles blend, not the grey bg. No matter what kind of layer I put a particular effect on, I get a medium grey background + particles across the whole layer(even an adjustment layer or a blank layer).
